Florida Students Test Windows Live QnA

Students under Dr. James Whittaker at Florida Institute of Technology have been applying lessons from his latest book

How to Break Web Software : Functional and Security Testing of Web Applications and Web Services (Paperback)

to test the Windows Live QnA site before beta release.  Working with the QnA test team they have developed a threat model and submitted many bugs including several ingenious cross site scripting attacks.   It has been a great learning experience on both sides.  Students get feedback on threat models and quality of bug reports and the QnA teams gets additional functional and security testing.

“It was interesting to experience the product features changing as we worked on the project.  It was also my first Web application to test, so the interface for testing it was a new experience for me,” said James Stimers, now an intern at Microsoft.
